CLC Announces New Leadership

The Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC) announced today that it has tapped former Denver City Attorney Kristin Bronson to serve as its next Executive Director. Ms. Bronson will start May 1, 2023 and will replace Connie Talmage who retired after serving 22 years in the position.

As Executive Director, Ms. Bronson will oversee all aspects of the Lawyers Committee, a nonpartisan consortium of 70 Colorado law firms dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for children, the poor and other disadvantaged communities through pro bono legal advocacy, negotiation and litigation. “This organization has made an immeasurable impact on communities across the state for forty-five years. And it only happened because the legal community came together to improve the lives of fellow Coloradans. In my new role as Executive Director, I hope to build on this great legacy.”

Also re-joining the executive team as CLC’s Chief Operating Officer is Kathleen McCrohan who served as the Committee’s Associate Director from late 2016 to early 2022. She will return on April 1, 2023. Ms. McCrohan was most recently the Director of Public Interest Advising at the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  Said McCrohan, "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chief Operating Officer of the Colorado Lawyers Committee where I can continue my longstanding commitment to helping underserved communities across Colorado.”

Last year, the Colorado Lawyers Committee coordinated 930 volunteers who contributed more than 6,700 hours and over $3 million worth of time to 29 projects and task forces in such areas as children’s rights and education, civil rights and criminal law, immigration, community development, poverty and public benefits.

Unlike some legal advocacy organizations, the focus of the Lawyers Committee is on major public policy issues and systemic change, rather than individual representation — unless it’s a case that impacts a larger population. A few projects include Denver Legal Night, the Afghan Asylum Project, a Hate Crimes Education Program, the Small Business Assistance Legal Project, and a Nonprofit Clinic.

“For 22 years, Connie Talmage has served the Lawyers Committee and the Colorado Legal Community with distinction. During her tenure, she has guided the work of the Lawyers Committee volunteers, grown the scope and membership of the Committee, created a vibrant Young Lawyers Division, and greatly expanded and enhanced the Chairs Roundtable. Connie has been the heart and soul of the Lawyers Committee,“ said Board Chair Richard A. Westfall (Westfall Law LLC).

“Today, I can say that the Lawyers Committee is exceptionally fortunate to have Kristin succeed Connie. Her tremendous skill set as an attorney, her deep understanding of the Colorado Legal Community, her commitment to public service and pro bono legal representation—all and more make her uniquely qualified to carry on Connie’s good work. We are similarly thrilled with Kathleen’s return and are confident that this new executive team can lead the Lawyers Committee to what will unquestionably be further growth and success in improving the lives of children and the underserved.”
