About Us

The Colorado Lawyers Committee was formally organized in 1978 and is affiliated with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Washington D.C. and similar organizations in seven other cities throughout the country.

Today, the Colorado Lawyers Committee consists of 56 Colorado law firms and almost 1,300 attorneys who volunteer their time to find solutions to significant problems that impact children and the underprivileged. This past year, 600 volunteers donated more than $2.25 million worth of time to Colorado Lawyers Committee projects.

Recently, Colorado Lawyers Committee volunteers have participated in landmark legal cases concerning welfare reform, the availability of Medicaid to ill children, and educational equity. Other Committee volunteers have explained Colorado’s ethnic intimidation laws, worked with state officials to ensure that people of Colorado are not disenfranchised in elections, supported economic development and expanded information available to immigrants.
